Flexible Duration

A deep dive into flexible duration.

This guide covers duration-based price rules and availability for scheduled sessions. Flexible times and Multi-day rentals use a different availability setup; see Setting Operating Hours and Availability.

Creating a price rule

Let's take a step-by-step look into how to create a price rule for one of your experiences or events.

Set your default duration

Before creating a price rule, be sure to add your default pricing and duration to the experience by entering the proper information in the Setup and Capacity & price tabs of the experience builder respectively.

Add price rule

The next step to utilize Flexible Duration is to click the Add price rule button in the Dynamic pricing section, so that the price automatically adjusts based on your chosen criteria.

Clicking the Add price rule button will open the price rule modal.

Name your price rule

Enter a name for your price rule. This will only be displayed internally to you and your staff and will be used to quickly identify the conditions within the rule.

Examples of common names for price rules using Flexible Duration:

  • Half day

  • Full day

Select your conditions

Select the Duration condition to set your Flexible Duration rule, then choose your alternate duration for the experience.

Add any additional conditions.

View our Help Center article for Dynamic Pricing to learn more about options for adding additional conditions.

Adjust your pricing

The final step is to set the new pricing tier(s) and price(s) that you would like to charge if the established conditions are met.

New pricing tiers and prices are added on the right side of the modal, where you can do the following:

  • Adjust the price

  • Adjust the price label

  • Add additional tiers

Save your price rule

Once you have entered all of the above information, click Save.

The price rules you have created for the experience will be listed in the price rule section.

Check shared resources before offering overlapping durations. When sessions use the same resource pool, bookings reserve units for their time window. One booking can therefore reduce availability for an overlapping session, even when it has a different duration. See How Shared Inventory Protects Against Double Booking.

Adding Availability

When adding availability with different durations, it is similar to the standard Availability workflow.

  1. Select Add session

  2. Select the Date on which your availability should start

  3. Select the start time

  4. Select the Duration

  5. Select the Repeating schedule, if applicable

  6. Save the availability

The pricing that the guest sees when booking will automatically change based on the rules you configure in the Capacity & price page.

If no rule was created for the duration you set, it will default to the original pricing tier.

Take a look at our Help Center article for Adding Availability to learn more about this process.
